The History of Lasagna

history of lasagna

The history of lasagna technically dates back to ancient Greece. We know the Greek word “laganon” is used to describe the first know form of pasta. The Greek dish is not the traditional Italian form as we know it, but the layers of pasta and sauce are the foundation. As with every old world recipe, there is debate over who created the first lasagna. We are not here to proclaim a winner, simply discuss the amazing dish that is loved the world over.

With a little Greek inspiration, the Italians started to craft and perfect a dish that transcends cultures, beliefs and geography. Through the centuries the lasagna as we know it is developed. With layers of pasta, sauce and flavorful cheeses, lasagna is the perfect comfort food.

Today’s Lasagna

Ask a chef and they’ll give you a recipe for “their take on lasagana.” Like most dishes, lasagna is deeply personal and the ingredients may vary. The lasagna of today typically includes a hearty tomato sauce with meat, layers of lasagna noodles along with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses.

To accomplish a depth of flavor, Anna Marie’s lasagna includes a meat sauce with sausage. The sauce is slow simmered for hours to infuse the flavor in every bite. As a labor of love, lasagna is hand crafted, layer by layer to ensure quality and flavors, our chef supervises every tray.

This recipe has been passed down from generation to generation which makes it truly one of a kind. Yes this adds another chapter to the history of lasagna.
